RMIT University provides a safe, supervised learning environment for students and clients. This enables students to practice and develop their remedial and myotherapy skills they have learned in class, on as wide a range of people as possible. RMIT University offers clinics with various types of massage, depending on students’ level of qualifications:
• Students in the Diploma of Remedial Massage may perform Relaxation/Therapeutic/Sports/Remedial techniques in a “Remedial Therapy” session.
• Our Advanced Diploma students will assess, treat and attempt to prevent specific muscular dysfunction and various musculoskeletal pathologies. Treatment may involve various modalities that enhance the restoration and recovery from these conditions via treatment of soft tissue and may incorporate Dry Needling.
The clinics aim to mimic professional clinic practice as a much as possible. Below is a general list of the skills and work place learning that the students will be demonstrating in the student clinics:
• Correct draping and posture during a massage
• Working independently and as a part of a team
• Appropriate communication skills including informed consent
